Hern votes for NDAA, supports separate action on Section 230

Representative Kevin Hern (OK-01) released the following statement after voting in support of the NDAA Conference Report.

“The most important function of the NDAA is funding our military,” said Rep. Hern. “Our service men and women are stationed across the country and globe defending American freedoms and interests around the world. Continuity within our military should be of the utmost importance to every American. When I voted against the original NDAA in July, I was concerned with a litany of unrelated issues that were included in the legislation, as well as a rushed process that lacked transparency with the Members of Congress who weren’t directly involved in the creation of the bill. With this NDAA Conference Report, Senator Inhofe has done a fantastic job championing the needs of our military and our constituents back in Oklahoma as Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee. I am glad to see that bipartisan work on this bill has resulted in legislation that we can pass and put into action quickly.”

Rep. Hern continued, “I am aware that President Trump is still concerned about issues with Section 230 and has threatened to veto the NDAA over this issue. I believe the President is founded in his concerns, but it is in our nation’s best interest to pass the NDAA without unrelated measures. We must hold tech giants accountable, but that can and should happen separate from the NDAA. I am proud to vote for this legislation today and I look forward to working with the President and my colleagues in Congress to address selective censorship and biased actions from social media companies impeding the First Amendment rights of American citizens.”
