Representative Kevin Hern (OK-01) called Caedmon Myers, a 9th grader at Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, to inform him that he was selected as the winner of the 2022 Congressional App Challenge for Oklahoma's First Congressional District. Mr. Myers developed “DoorHinge Parkour”, a software application that combines his two passions: coding and parkour. Mr. Myers’ app helps beginner parkour enthusiasts take the first leap into the hobby by offering instructional videos, tips, and tricks that can take their technique to the next level. “Recognizing brilliant students is what the Congressional App Challenge is all about,” said Rep. Hern. “Mr. Myers' app shows an innovative skill set and coding aptitude that is critical to the future success of our economy. Talent in the STEM fields are in high demand, and those who apply themselves in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math will have a competitive advantage for many high paying jobs in the future". Background Information The Congressional App Challenge launched in 2016 with the intent of fostering appreciation for computer science and STEM skills in high school students. Members of the House of Representatives host district-by-district competitions each school year for students to design an app. App challenge winners will be honored in April at the #HouseofCode reception on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C., where winners from each Congressional district are invited to demo their applications to members of Congress and industry job creators. Their work will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol Building and featured on the House of Representatives’ website. More information on the Congressional App Challenge can be found here.
