Representative Kevin Hern (OK-01) awarded Abraham Garcia as his 2022 Congressional Art Competition winner. Garcia is a senior at Thomas Edison Preparatory High School in Tulsa. The Congressional Art competition is a nationwide event that allows high school students from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories to showcase their artistic ability. This year’s competition theme for Oklahoma’s 1stcongressional district was “Creative Oklahoma: Celebrating Oklahoma’s rich contribution to the arts.” Garcia’s “Oklahoma Bison” drawing was the winning piece of art that will be displayed in the Cannon tunnel at the U.S. Capitol. A flight to Washington D.C. will be provided for Garcia and a companion of his choosing to see his work displayed in person. “I am inspired by the young talent we have in Oklahoma,” said Rep. Hern. “Oklahomans have a beautiful history as artists, innovators, and entrepreneurs that the next generation of Oklahomans are ready to enhance. I am excited to show Abraham his displayed work and pass this stunning drawing everyday as it hangs in the halls of Congress and reminds me of home.”
