Rep. Hern celebrates 111 days in office

Representative Kevin Hern (OK-01) is celebrating 111 days in office today.

“It’s been an action-packed couple of months, but I wouldn’t want it any other way,” said Rep. Hern. “The people of the First District sent me to Congress to work hard and I won’t let them down. I’m proud of the work I’ve accomplished in these first 111 days. We’ve been busy, but the work we’ve accomplished speaks for itself. I look forward to building on this progress as the year continues.”

Because of the vacancy created by NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, Rep. Hern was sworn in a week after Election Day, on November 13, 2018, finishing Bridenstine’s term.

After assuming office, Rep. Hern immediately got to work establishing his Tulsa and DC offices, getting to know his colleagues, and learning the ropes of Congress. In the 111 days since, Rep. Hern cast 270 votes in the House of Representatives without missing a single one.

Rep. Hern is one of very few Republican members to be assigned to three committees: Budget, Small Business, and Natural Resources. In addition, Rep. Hern has joined 10 caucuses, including the Republican Study Committee, the Pro-Life Caucus, the Sportsmen’s Caucus, and the Western Caucus.

In a sign of support and respect from Republican colleagues, Rep. Hern was appointed to serve as the Ranking Member of the Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access, a rare leadership nod to a freshman Member of Congress.

Rep. Hern has cosponsored 38 bills and letters, including headlining a letter to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue in support of the proposed rule change to enforce SNAP work requirements. 64 Members of Congress joined Congressman Hern on the letter.

With 810 inbound calls and communications to the office, Rep. Hern has sent out 51,743 letters, emails, and calls to constituents about his work in Congress and responding to questions. With a key focus on constituent services, Rep. Hern hired stellar caseworkers in his Tulsa office and has helped constituents with veterans’ affairs, social security, and other issues navigating federal agencies.

81 groups and 459 individuals have received tours of the United States Capitol Building through Rep. Hern’s office.

Rep. Hern has remained just as active in Oklahoma as he is in Washington, DC, and has attended more than 300 events in the district since November 13, 2018.
