RSC Members follow through on commitment to impeach Alejandro Mayorkas
Washington, DC,
February 15, 2024
This week, the House of Representatives impeached DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas following investigations into his failed leadership as the chief protector of our nation’s borders. Republican Study Committee (RSC) members have been at the forefront of the fight to impeach Secretary Mayorkas, working hard to uncover his failures at DHS and shine a light on the record-breaking crisis at our Southern border. “Secretary Mayorkas has thoroughly failed to uphold his oath of office,” said RSC Chairman Kevin Hern. “He’s shown contempt for our laws and those who wish to uphold them. When interrogated by Congress, he showed no remorse for his actions – only hubris. RSC has worked hard to get this impeachment vote to the floor, and we are working with our partners in the Senate to present a compelling case for trial. Anywhere else, failure to perform would result in termination. It’s time for some true accountability.” Last summer, RSC released a memo to Members outlining the case for impeachment. On February 24, 2023, RSC adopted an official position supporting the impeachment of Mayorkas. Previously, Chairman Hern had long called for Mayorkas’ resignation. There have been over 8.5 million illegal crossings nationwide since the start of Biden’s presidency, 7 million of which were at the Southern border. There have been nearly 2 million gotaways and over 330 known terrorists caught trying to enter the country illegally. By the Biden Administration’s own estimate, 40% of catch-and-release migrants have disappeared. Members of the Republican Study Committee have fought to restore President Trump’s successful immigration policies and reverse the damage President Biden has done over the last three years. The House passed HR 2, a comprehensive border security bill, last May. Impeaching Secretary Mayorkas this week was the next step – now it’s time for the Senate to hear the case from the managers and convict Secretary Mayorkas. |
